Hi there.

I'm guessing that the mysterious traffic spikes I've encountered in the past couple of days have to do with one of two things: either Jenny's readers have been coming a-calling or it's a beginning of the semester thing as students and potential students come to scope out their new professor.

Thought I'd mention a couple of things, just in case you're a student of mine and you're reading this:

there are only a couple of rules of thumb that I operate by for this weblog. First is that I should disclaim by saying that this site isn't representative of Syracuse University in any way, shape, or fashion. As I note in the side-bar, it's semi-professional, and many of my posts will connect to my scholarly work in one way or another. But sometimes, that's not the case. There is no official connection between the writing that I do here and my position on the faculty at Syracuse.

The most important corrollary of this is that there are certain areas of my life that will never show up here. I do not discuss students, colleagues, or courses in this space. I do have colleagues, and occasionally students, who visit, but most of what I think about at this site takes place outside the workplace.

Believe me, it's both easier and healthier that way. Really.

So, if you've stopped by to see who I am, feel free to browse.

Oh, and hooray to Jenny, whose weblog is finally back up and running...
